This is a very large (almost 8 inches across) specimen of Cleoniceras cleon from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. This ammonite has been removed from the surrounding matrix and highly polished on both sides. Both sides of the ammonite display beautifully. The inner whorls of the ammonite are clearly defined, and the intricate suture pattern is wonderfully displayed. The cream-colored suture lines contrast strikingly with the grayish-brown cephalopod that still retains a few patches of iridescent nacreous shell. The size of the ammonite and the complex suture pattern make this a very collectible specimen.
