Here is an excellent specimen of Lituites littuus from the Ordovician of China. This ''strange'' nautiloid starts in a coiling pattern and then straightens out. This cephalopod is very 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits fine detail. The inner whorls of the coiled portion are clearly defined. The straight-line sutures are easily seen, and the individual body chambers are quite evident. The specimen has nice grayish-white color and contrasts wonderfully with the reddish-brown matrix. It is nicely centered on the rectangular block of matrix that has been semi-polished to make it more attractive. This is a very aesthetic specimen of this unusual semi-coiled nautiloid.
