Here is a rare cystoid from the Silurian of New York. This is Callocystites jewetti from the Rochester Shale. This specimen has been cleaned from the surrounding rock, so that it is completely free of matrix. This primitive echinoderm is inflated and exhibits incredible detail. The ambulacra are nicely displayed and the pore rhombs are easily seen. The highly ornamented plates are beautifully articulated. The quickly-tapering stem is still attached. This is a wonderful specimen of this rare cystoid from New York.
