This is a spectacular fossil. It is a huge Cleoniceras cleon from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. This ammonite has been cut in half and both halves have been highly polished. The coiling pattern of the cepahlopod is easily seen, and the individual chambers of the cephalopod are beautifully showcased. Many of the chambers are hollow and lined with golden calcite crystals like miniature geodes. Even the exterior of the ammonite has been polished, and the intricate suture pattern is clearly defined. The large size of the specimen combined with the exquisite colors of the ammonite make for a gorgeous exhibit. This would be a stunning display in home or office.
