This is a very complete example of an extremely unusual fossil. It is an articulated Discosauriscus pulcher from the Permian strata of the Czech Republic. As everyone knows, Permian vertebrates are rare in the fossil record, and complete examples are few and far between (heck, trilobites were still around in the Permian!). This specimen is about as complete as you could find. The skull is amazingly well preserved - the teeth are present and the interlocking skull components are tightly articulated. All four limbs are intact and complete down to the finger digits! The ribs, vertebrae, and tail are also nicely showcased. The specimen is incredibly well-centered on the large, unbroken matrix plate. This is an extremely displayable example of a complete vertebrate from the Permian.
