This is a very colorful ammonite. It is a Cleoniceras cleon from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. This type of ammonite has faint ribbing and a fairly sharp keel. This specimen is nicely inflated and exhibits fine detail. It has been removed from the surrounding matrix so that it can be viewed from all angles. The inner whorls of the ammonite are easily seen, and the iridescent shell of the cephalopod is intact and flashes many beautiful colors (much, much better than what the picture shows). It is quite unusual to find this ammonite with the iridescent shell so well preserved. The ammonite is very ''clean'' and both sides of the ammonite display wonderfully. This is a great specimen of Cleoniceras with excellent, natural coloration.
