This is an excellent plate of fossil insects from the Eocene of Utah. On the left side of the plate is a Snout Beetle. This Beetle is easily seen with the naked eye. But the real prize is the insect on the right side of the slab. This HUGE Beetle is one of the most spectacular insects that we have ever seen from the Green River Formation. The detail of this insect is just wonderful - the head, body, and spread wing covers are beautifully displayed. There are at least six other insects of various types scattered about the two larger specimens. The fossils have great color and contrast and are nicely presented on the somewhat rectangular plate of shale. This is a fantastic slab of fossil insects from the Eocene.
