This is a very attractive specimen of Russian ammonites. These are Cosmoceras proniae from the Jurassic. This type of ammonite has fairly coarse ribbing and a sharp keel. There are several examples of Cosmoceras on the plate. The center ammonite exhibits wonderful detail - the tiny inner coils of the cephalopod are easily seen. The nacreous shell of the ammonites is intact, and the iridescent coloration is quite spectacular (much better than what the picture shows). The ammonites are nicely presented on the plate of concretionary matrix that is lined with sparkling pyrite crystals. This is a striking specimen of Cosmoceras from Russia.
