This is a very displayable echinoid. It is an Acrosalenia hemicidaroides from the Jurassic of France. This 3-dimensional echinoid is very ornate and exhibits wonderful detail. The knobby nature of the sea urchin is quite distinct, and the narrow ambulacra can even be seen. Many of the long spines are still attached to the test, which is EXTREMELY rare. Some of the thin, tiny spines are also present. The fossil has very good color and contrast and is well centered on the block of limestone that is loaded with other fragments of both echinoids and crinoids. This is an excellent specimen of this highly unusual echinoid from the Jurassic of France.
