This is an excellent plate of fossil brittlestars from the Eocene of California. Fossil brittlestars are relatively uncommon in the fossil record, due to the delicate nature of the thin arms. Starfish are occasionally found at this site, but brittlestars are extremely rare. Both brittlestars on this plate exhibit the large central disk, and all five long, sinuous arms of each brittlestar are clearly defined. The echinoderms show fine detail - the plate structure is easily seen. The fossils have outstanding color and contrast and are beautifully displayed on the natural plate of matrix. This is a very displayable specimen of fossil brittlestars from an unusual location.
