Here is a great vertebrate fossil with a tale to tell. This is a large deer jaw from the Pleistocene of Nebraska. Six beautiful teeth are still firmly embedded in the nicely preserved jaw. The teeth show very little wear and the enamel is wonderfully displayed. Here is, perhaps, the most interesting part of the story. This jaw was extensively gnawed on by a rodent or other animal prior to fossilization! These numerous gnaw marks are quite distinct and very easily seen. This is a very unusual fossil that shows evidence of Ice Age scavengers. The fossil comes mounted in a framed glass case at no extra charge.
