This is a beautiful stromatolite specimen. It is Copperia tubiformis from the Precambrian of Australia. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae. This stromatolite has been estimated to be 2.2 to 2.4 billion years old! This rectangular slab has been polished on one side for optimal display. The unique color pattern is totally natural and extremely unusual. This is a wonderful example of this distinctive stromatolite from ''Down Under''.
