This is a very interesting stromatolite slab from the Lower Cambrian of California. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae. This colorful slab has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The unique pattern of the stromatolites is beautifully showcased, and the different colors of the mineral replacement are quite striking. And this specimen is extremely large - the largest example of this type that we have had. This is a very displayable stromatolite fossil from the Marble Mountains of California.
