This is an unusual Devonian fossil. It is a large, unidentified bivalve from Madison County, NY. This specimen was found by Steve Hess in the 1980's while he was digging at the Dipleura trilobite site. This specimen is a textbook example because both valves of the bivalve are present and splayed open. The outer detail of the bivalves is very well preserved - the distinct ribbing pattern is very easily seen. The large valves are nicely showcased on the natural, unbroken plate of marlstone. This is a very displayable example of Devonian bivalves from New York State.
