This is a very displayable brachiopod plate. It is a large slab of Platyrachella iowensis from the Devonian of Iowa. This type of brachiopod is very robust and the valves terminate in pointed ''wings'' - these are quite evident on this specimen. The coarse ornamentation and distinct ribbing of the brachs are clearly defined. The fossils have very good color and contrast and are beautifully showcased on the natural block of matrix. This is an exhibit-quality example of Platyrachella from Iowa.
