Here is an unusual fossil. This is a very nice specimen of Discalioides sp., a fossil jellyfish. This jellyfish is from a "new" find in the Oligocene deposits of France. Jellyfish are very rare in the fossil record because of their delicate nature. This specimen exhibits great detail. It is almost perfectly centered on the squared plate of matrix. This is a superb specimen of an organism that is very rarely fossilized.
