This is a spectacular fossil. It is a huge Cleoniceras cleon from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. This ammonite has been split in half and both halves have been highly polished. The coiling pattern of the cepahlopod is easily seen, and the individual chambers of the ammonite are beautifully showcased. Many of the chambers are hollow and lined with golden calcite crystals, like miniature geodes. Even the exterior of the ammonite has been polished, and the intricate suture pattern is clearly defined. The extremely large size of the specimen, combined with its exquisite quality and striking orange color, makes for a gorgeous exhibit. This would be a stunning display fossil for one's home or office.
