This is a very interesting fossil. It is a Chesapecten nefrens from the famous Calvert Area of Maryland. This type of bivalve is a scallop, as seen by the shape of the shell. This specimen has both halves of the shell intact and fossilized together. The top side of the scallop had barnacles growing on it - the back side is free of barnacles and is practically flawless. This is an unusual fossil occurrence from the Chesapeake Bay region.
