Here is a nice multiple plate of fossil sponges. These are Diagonella sp. from the Cambrian of Utah. Sponges are very uncommon in the fossil record, due to their delicate nature. Cambrian sponges apparently had skeletal nets that were weakly united - they generally required quiet water for preservation. There are six fine examples of this urn-shaped sponge on this plate. The fossil sponges have good color and excellent contrast. They are nicely positioned on the squared plate of shale. This is a very collectible multiple plate of these uncommon Cambrian invertebrates.
