This is a very detailed specimen of an extremely rare cystoid. It is a Callocystites jewetti from the Silurian of New York. This cystoid is quite large, very inflated, and exhibits incredible detail. The highly ornamented plates are beautifully articulated. The ambulacra are also evident, and two of the pore rhombs are easily seen. The lengthy stem is present, which is very unusual. The fossil has excellent color and contrast and is beautifully composited on the large plate of shale. This is a very displayable example of this primitive echinoderm.
