Here is an extremely large and beautiful stromatolite specimen from the Precambrian of Australia. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae. This slab has been highly polished on both sides for optimal display. The layered mineral replacement is clearly defined - the reddish-black lines of hematite and jasper combined with the golden bands of tigereye make for a breathtaking display. This is a huge display example of this extremely colorful stromatolite from ''Down Under''.
