This is a beautiful specimen of Discoscaphites conradi from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. The fossil cephalopod is inflated and complete all the way down to the aperture. The faint ribbing pattern and the nodes around the circumference of the ammonite are nicely displayed. The iridescent mother-of-pearl shell is well preserved. A wide array of colors is exhibited. The ammonite is beautifully positioned on the natural matrix. The block of matrix also contains many fossil bivalves. This is a very pretty ammonite from the Cretaceous.
