Here is an excellent blastoid from the Permian. This is Deltoblastus permicus from the remote island of Timor. Blastoids first appeared in the fossil record during the Ordovician and became extinct at the end of the Permian. This is one of the last types in the long line of blastoid evolution. Permian blastoids are only found in a few places in the world and are highly collectible. This ''loose'' blastoid is very robust and exhibits fine detail. The wide ambulacra are easily seen - even the radial-deltoid sutures are clearly defined. This is a wonderful example of a Permian blastoid from an exotic location.
