This is a nice specimen of Hoploscaphites from the Cretaceous of South Dakota. The ammonite is complete to the very tip of the aperture. The cephalopod is very 3-dimensional and shows the ribbing pattern (coarse in the beginning to very fine towards the aperture) extremely well. This ammonite retains a goodly portion of the iridescent shell and exhibits many colors. This is a pretty specimen of Hoploscaphites from the Cretaceous.
