This is an excellent plate of fossil starfish from the Ordovician of Canada. There are two examples of Stenaster obtusus (one is complete, one is a partial) on the slab. Stenaster starfish are commonly called ''button stars''. The complete starfish has all five arms present (highly unusual) and exhibits superb detail. The plate structure is beautifully defined - just look at the picture. These fossil echinoderms have very good color and contrast and are well presented on the rectangular plate of limestone. This is a wonderful example of true fossil starfish from the Ordovician Period.
