Here is an attractive echinoid from the Pleistocene of Mexico. This is a large example of Encope grandis, a ''sand dollar''. The classic shape, with the notches and large hole, is easily seen. The wide, petaloid ambulacra on the top of the urchin is clearly defined. The sand dollar is free of matrix and can be displayed on both sides. The orange-brown coloration of the fossil is quite striking. This is a very displayable example of a fossil sand dollar from ''South of the Border''.
