This is an extremely rare fossil starfish. It is a large Jaekelaster petaliformis from the slate quarries of Bundenbach, Germany. This starfish is so rare, it is not even listed in the ''Bundenbach Book''. This type of starfish has long, thick, fleshy arms with minute plates and unusual ornamentation. The detail is excellent - both the internal and external structures are easily seen. The star is preserved in golden pyrite, which is quite striking. This is a fabulous example of this very uncommon Devonian starfish - one of the best examples of this unusual type ever found.
