This is a very aesthetic plate of Devonian fossil. Present are a HUGE Paraspirifer bownockeri brachiopod and an Eldredgeops milleri cephalon from the world-famous Silica Shale of Ohio. The brachiopods has been dipped in acid (to reveal the iron pyrite replacement) and then reattached to the piece of matrix - what a striking display! The brachiopod is extremely 3-dimensional and reveals both articulated valves. The trilobite head is firmly embedded in the rock, and even displays the full array of distinct eye facets. The fossils contrast beautifully with the light grey shale matrix. This is an excellent pair of different Devonian fossils from this famous site.
