This is a very special fossil from the famous Bundenbach slate of Germany. This is a huge example of Mimetaster hexagonalis, a bizarre, extinct arthropod from the Devonian seas. The slate quarries in this region are now closed, so no new specimens are being found - the only way to obtain specimens from this site is through the dispersal of old collections, and, of course, this plate was acquired from an OLD German collection. This enigmatic arthropod is one of the most sought-after fossils from this location. This striking specimen exhibits fabulous detail and is beautifully articulated. The unique, ''snowflake-like'' appendages are very easily seen. This is a This is very rare Paleozoic fossil, probably as close as a private collector could come to owning an example of Marella splendens from the Burgess Shale!
