This is a very unusual find. It is a large unidentified insect and Beetle (Coleoptera) from China. Both insects have excellent detail preserved and are nicely showcased on the plate of shale. But the amazing feature of this fossil is that the large insect has the beetle in its grasp, ready to devour it! The bugs were buried just moments before the ultimate sacrifice! This is an extremely rare example of insect predation in the fossil record, establishing a direct link in the ancient food chain. This is a very important and collectible fossil from the Age of the Dinosaurs.
