Here is an extremely interesting fossil. This is actual body hair from the Woolly Mammoth, Mammuthus primigenius. This ''wool'' was found in the same area that was featured in the Discovery Channel special, ''Raising the Mammoth''. As you can imagine, only under perfect conditions can actual Woolly Mammoth hair be preserved. This clump of hair probably came from the Mammoth's back or side, as the hair is long and coarse (see close-up photo for details). There is a large amount of hair present and it makes for a very displayable specimen. This is a very unique Mammoth fossil from the Ice Age of Russia.
