Here is a very nice ammonite from Nigeria. This is Vascoceras costatum from the Cretaceous. This ''wide-bodied'' ammonite has been removed from the surrounding matrix so that both sides can be seen. The cephalopod is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail - the inner whorls of the ammonite are easily seen, and the complex suture pattern is preserved in beautiful fashion. This is an excellent specimen of Vascoceras costatum from the ''wilds'' of Africa.
