This is a beautiful slab of a stromatolite from the Precambrian of Michigan. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae. This stromatolite has been estimated to be 2.3 to 2.5 billion years old! This large slab has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The pattern of mineral replacement is quite unusual, and the unique coloration is wonderfully showcased. This is an extremely displayable slab of this very old stromatolite from Michigan.
