Here is an excellent fossil insect. This HUGE beetle (Coleoptera) is from the Eocene of Utah. This fossil insect is extremely well preserved and exhibits very fine detail. The head, body and wing covers of the beetle are easily seen - even the eyes of the beast are quite evident. This fossil impression even retains part of the color pattern of the animal. The multi-colored fossil contrasts beautifully with the light-colored matrix. It is well positioned on a large (3.5" X 3.8") plate of shale. This is one of the most displayable fossil beetles that we have ever had from the Green River Shale.
