This is a very collectible fossil. It is a complete Chesapecten nefrens from the famous Calvert Area of Maryland. This type of bivalve is a scallop, as seen by the shape of the shell. This specimen has both halves of the shell intact and fossilized together. The top side of the scallop has large barnacles preserved on it - it is extremely rare to have these fragile barnacles still intact. The back side shell is free of barnacles and is practically flawless. This is an unusual fossil symbiosis from the Chesapeake Bay region.
