Here is an excellent specimen of a European brachiopod. This is Rhynchonella decorata from the Jurassic of France. The brachiopod is extremely 3-dimensional and exhibits wonderful detail. The coarsely-plicated brachiopod displays the fine growth lines very clearly. Both valves of the brachiopod are intact and tightly articulated. The brownish-tan fossils contrast nicely with the almost-white matrix. The brachiopod is aesthetically posed on the sculpted block. The block has been sawed flat on the bottom for optimal exhibition of the fossil. This is a very displayable specimen of an ornate brachiopod.
