Here is a great vertebrate fossil. This is a wonderful specimen of an Ichthyosaur tooth from the Cretaceous of Russia. This tooth has been removed from the surrounding matrix so that it can be viewed from all angles. The tooth is extremely robust and exhibits excellent detail. The dark brown, striated enamel of the tooth is beautifully preserved, and the very tiny tip of the tooth is nearly perfect. The entire root of the tooth is still intact, which is extremely unusual. This is an excellent example of a tooth from this strange reptile that inhabited the Cretaceous seas.
