Here is a beautiful ammonite from an unusual location. This is Flexoptychites flexuosus from the Triassic of Greece. Triassic cephalopods are not common in the fossil record - there are only a few places in the world where they are found. This ammonite has been polished to reveal the striking red and white coloration and wonderful feather-like suture pattern. Polished specimens are prized - most ammonites from this locality do not take a polish. This large specimen is quite 3-dimensional and is beautifully perched atop the limestone base. This is a very displayable specimen of a red and white Triassic ammonite from Greece. (Note: The white reflection on the ammonite is from the scan, and not on the actual specimen.)
