This is a beautiful Russian ammonite. It is a large Cosmoceras deltus from the Jurassic Period. This type of ammonite has a distinct ribbing pattern with large nodes, or ''horns'', on the surface of the ammonite. This specimen is extremely robust and exhibits fine detail - even the tiny inner whorls of the ammonite are wonderfully displayed. The iridescent nacre of the cephalopod is spectacular, displaying a virtual rainbow of colors (hard to see in photo). The ammonite is beautifully showcased on a sculpted base of concretionary matrix. This is a fabulous display specimen of this uncommon ammonite from Russia.
