This is a rare fossil starfish. It is an excellent ''pillow'' star from the Ordovician of Morocco. This specimen is unusual for two reasons: this site usually produces much more common brittlestars - Ordovician pillow stars are extremely rare, and the star is replaced by calcite - most of the fossils from this site are molds and casts. This specimen is complete and has great detail preserved - the individual plates are easily seen. The star has nice relief and is well centered on the large sandstone block. This is the only example of a pillow star from these Ordovician layers that we have seen, and it is a beauty!
