Here is a very attractive plate of brachiopods. These are Paraspirifer bownockeri from the famous Silica Shale of Ohio. Both valves of each brachiopod are intact and tightly articulated. The brachiopods have been replaced by iron pyrite, or ''fool's gold'', and have beautiful, sparkling, golden coloration. The extremely 3-dimensional fossils contrast wonderfully with the grey matrix plate that also contains Phacops trilobite parts. This is a very displayable plate of these large brachiopods from the Devonian.
