This is a beautiful multiple plate of Pentremites sp. from the Mississippian of Illinois. There are 13 specimens of at least two different species of Pentremites on this plate. One type has a very short pelvis, while the other kind has an elongated pelvis. The blastoids exhibit excellent detail - the plate structure is well defined, and the ambulacra are wonderfully preserved. There is also a large brachiopod on the plate. Both valves are present, and the growth pattern of the brachiopod is nicely displayed. A large horn coral is also present on the piece. The fossils are extremely 3-dimensional, and they have great color and contrast. They are nicely positioned on the natural plate of matrix. This is a very interesting assemblage of fossils from the Ridenhower Formation.
