Here is a fine specimen of a Middle Cambrian cystoid. This is a Gogia juvalorum (?) from the Antimony Canyon, Utah. This primitive echinoderm used to be known as an eocrinoid, but has now been re-classified as a cystoid. The preservation of this primitive echinoderm is wonderful. The elongate, multi-plated, tail-like holdfast is very distinct, and the large-plated, ornate calyx is extremely detailed. Some of the long, segmented arms are even preserved. The cystoid has great natural color and contrast and is nicely showcased on the squared matrix plate. This is a very detailed specimen of this rare, primitive echinoderm from the Spence Shale.
