This is a very nice crinoid and blastoid association piece from the Burlington Formation of Iowa. The crinoid calyx on the left of the piece is Macrocrinus verneuilianus. This distinct crinoid displays great detail - the plates of the calyx and arm attachment points are easily seen. The blastoid next to the crinoid is Pentremites elongatus. This unusual blastoid also has nice detail - the ambulacra and spiracles are easily seen. The fossils are very 3-dimensional, and the natural white color of the fossils contrasts nicely with the orangish-brown matrix. The large piece of matrix is also littered with crinoid fragments. This is a very aesthetic crinoid/blastoid specimen from the Burlington Formation of Iowa.
