This is a very unusual echinoderm fossil. It is a large Castericystis sprinklei, a carpoid, from the Middle Cambrian of Utah. Carpoids were primitive echinoderms similar to cystoids. This specimen is complete, showing the holdfast, or ''tail'', the body, and the single arm. The structure of the carpoid is beautifully displayed under magnification. The fossil is well showcased on the colorful plate of shale. This is a fabulous example of this enigmatic echinoderm from the ''Red Beds'' of Utah.
