This is an excellent fossil bivalve. It is a complete Chesapecten nefrens from the Miocene of Maryland. This large scallop has both valves intact and tightly articulated. Both of the ''ears'' of the fossil scallop are present, and the coarse radial ornamentation of the shell is easily seen. The orange coloration is fully natural and quite striking. This is a beautiful example of this classic fossil scallop.
