This is an extremely attractive ammonite. It is a Cleoniceras cleon from the Cretaceous of Madagascar. This type of ammonite has faint ribbing and a somewhat sharp keel. This large specimen is quite inflated and totally free of matrix. The inner whorls of the ammonite are easily seen. The polished shell exhibits a myriad of beautiful colors - it is quite unusual to find this type of ammonite with the red and green ''ammolite''colors intact. This is a beautiful specimen of Cleoniceras with gorgeous coloration preserved. (The amazing coloration of this ammonite is extremely hard to see in the photo - sorry.)
