This is an excellent fossil cystoid. It is a large Amecystis sp. from the Ordovician of Ontario, Canada. This rare cystoid is woderfully preserved and has retains its classic sperm-like shape. Both of the uniserial arms are intact, which is extremely unusual. The LONG, tapering stem is still tightly attached and appears to be totally complete, which is also extremely rare. The cream-colored fossil contrasts nicely with the grey matrix. The cystoid is beautifully centered on the rectangular plate of limestone that also contains some crinoid stems. This is a very distinct example of this unusual Ordovician echinoderm.
