This is a very interesting fossil crustacean. It is a fine example of Macrophthalmus latreillei from the Pleistocene of Australia. This crab is 3-dimensionally preserved and exhibits excellent detail. The top of the carapace is covered with a multitude of small granulations. The underside of the carapace has the plate structure clearly defined. Many of the legs are intact - the legs are lined on both margins with sharp spikes. This is a very detailed example of a fossil crab from ''Down Under''.
