This is an excellent skull of Ictops dakotensis, an insectivore, from the Oligocene of South Dakota. The skull is wonderfully 3-dimensional - it exhibits no crushing at all. The cranium displays two very distinct ridges along the top. The lower jaws are present and very nicely articulated. The teeth of this specimen are beautifully preserved and easily seen. The eye orbits are quite evident. This is, perhaps, the best insectivore skull we have ever seen. This is a great specimen of a very rare fossil from the famous Oligocene deposits of South Dakota.
